Dog Obedience Classes
In our Basic Obedience Class we teach the handler how to effectively communicate with their pet. We will cover sit, down, stay, heel, impulse control, and recall; all while around other dogs.
Private Sessions
Obedience training specific to you and your dog. Let us help you reach your obedience goals with one on one training. These sessions can be held on-site or at a location of your choosing. (Note: Travel fees will apply outside of Brigham to Layton)
Utah’s Best Dog Obedience Training
One of the highlights of having a dog is the ability to take them out on adventures and out in public. We also of course love to know that they will behave at home too! Basic obedience is the groundwork for a stress-free experience no matter where you take your pup- and we are here to help! Sit, down, place, leave it, and walking nicely on leash are some of the foundational skills we teach to all dogs no matter their age. Here at Harrisville Working Dogs our obedience instruction is offered in three different styles: group classes, one on one, or a board and train.
Our group classes are the most economical offering to teach the basics as well as more advanced skills. They are offered every Sunday morning and are informal in nature. This allows every handler and dog to move at their own pace in a judgement-free environment. There are several trainers on site for every class, allowing for the opportunity to ask questions and progress at your own pace.
One on one sessions are just that- a class specifically tailored to you and your dog! You schedule an appointment that works for you either at HWD, your home, or at a different location and target the specific needs of your pup. You will have homework between classes, but it is a very fulfilling experience for you and your dog!
Board and trains are available for folks who may not have the time or ability to work obedience right now, but desire to live in harmony with their dog. They are typically 2-4 weeks in length, and your pup would be kept on site in a climate-controlled space at Harrisville Working Dogs for the duration of training. The result is a dog that has a good handle on basic commands and leaves you a great platform to perfect these commands at home.

We rescued a young German Shepherd dog from a recue in Elko, Nevada. We brought him home and named him "BROCK". He seemed to understand some basic commands like sit and lay down and he had a lot of puppy energy which really … More came out when we walked him. He didn't really pull but would take every inch of the leash he could. When we told him to stay, he would lay down and stay in position for about a minute maybe two if we were lucky.
We met JD and had a consultation with him and he told us we had a really good dog and mentioned that they have Sunday training classes that we could come to and work on training Brock.
We decided that since a German Shepherd dog like Brock could be a lot of dog to handle and train ourselves, we decided to put him in "board and train" for professional training.
JD and Carter worked with Brock during the board and train. They did an excellent job with Brock's training. When Brock came home he would sit and stay patiently until he was called. He will sit in "place" for 90 minutes or more. He will even put himself in "place", forget that he put himself there, and after awhile start whining to be called off, he learned "place" that well!
He is pleasurable to walk staying right on our side the whole time. When there are other dogs going crazy behind a fence he walks by barely paying any attention to them, usually just giving a glance at them if even that.
Harrisville Working dogs took our really good dog and helped him become an excellent dog that obeys wonderfully. We have been going to the Sunday training classes so that we can be trained as well as Brock. We are learning more about effective ways to do more training with Brock. The Sunday classes are great for the socializing of the dogs that are there. The structure of the classes is well planned out. With the training foundation that JD and Carter established and with what we have learned at the classes, we have been able to teach Brock more commands and tricks.
Having Harrisville Working Dogs be a part of Brock's life was the best choice we made to help Brock become a wonderful part of our family.

Drop-in Obedience Classes
Drop in classes are open ended classes where we work on a set skill for that day. All are welcome to join and learn the skill that we are working on that day.
